As you have seen in my previous writings I am a big fan of the SCD diet.  There is another newer diet out their that has helped a lot of IBD sufferers as well as Autistic children called the Body Ecology Diet (BED) by Donna Gates. The Body Ecology Diet and book, shows you how to restore and maintain the important “inner ecology” your body (I am totally on board with this).

The straightforward guidance they provide are all geared to one fundamental law of nature: the fact that our digestive systems are intimately linked to our immune, endocrine, circulatory and central nervous systems (if ony the medical establishment would gleen this). Profoundly affecting all these interlocking systems is an amazing world of benevolent bacteria: the microscopic “good guys” that must be present in your intestines for you to be healthy. Fundamentaly there are three simple dietary transitions that can have a profound impact on how you feel (according to BED):

  • The addition of cultured foods to your diet
  • Changing the quality of fats and oils you consume
  • Drastically reducing your intake of carbohydrates and sugars

Their products are all specifically designed to help you cultivate, nourish, cleanse and repair this abundant inner ecosystem (hence the name Body Ecology).  My personnal thoughts are start with the SCD diet first and then slowly incorporate elements of BED.  I am a big fan and user (in small amounts) of raw sauerkraut, which helped me find this diet.  They offer a number of probiotic oriented products that I haven’t tried yet, cookbooks, newsletters and personnal coaches.  What I am cautious about and I haven’t read Donna’s book is I am pretty sure some of the recipes like raw salads and juices may be a big problem for IBD’ers at least starting out.  So my recommendation is to incorporate elements of this diet after mastering the SCD diet and getting your IBD under control.
